MOSQUE DHA
Location: DHA 5

The design concept is a blend of modern and contemporary principles with traditional aesthetics of religious architecture. Resting on a heavily contoured site, the building sits at the lowest point of the site and is nestled into its landscape. The site is designed as a park which caters to the users throughout the day with the possibility of extending the extent of the prayer area as per need. The mosque is designed as a community focal point and offers its users a unique experience of worship and knowledge. In Islam, the circle represents the unity of a monotheistic God. The circular opening in the arcade emulates the concept of the “arsh”, i.e. sky, which is commonly expressed through the addition of a dome. In the interior, the main prayer hall was oriented in the direction of Qabaa and the negative spaces created by the angles were used for the auxiliary functions necessary for the mosque . The design is a constant interplay of traditional principles translated into modern lines while keeping the true essence of “worship” at the center of its design.
